The recently released survey of RBI on demonetisation and its results along with BJP government’s remarks about it are deeply frustrating. The report finds that nearly 99% of the money which was tendered legally invalid during demonetisation was returned to the central bank. To put it more intelligibly, 15.41 lakh crore was in the hands of the people before the midnight sermon of Mr.56 rendered them illegal and of them, 15.31 lakh crore has been returned to the central bank. The Government is answerable to these findings which have just trumpeted their misadventure and wild fantasies. Nevertheless, the Modi and his saffron brigade back in 2016 called it an exercise of pertinence to purge the black money from the Indian Society. What are the results now?
Only a tepid, niggardly 13000 crore has stayed out of this exercise in futility, which is less than what Modi gifted to Nirav Modi and sent him abroad for his honeymoon. Add to that the report of the Swiss Federal Bank, which has said that the amount of Indian Money stashed in Swiss banks has seen an amazing increase in the last 2 years. So why was this process which was utterly useless and blatantly bullshit brought forth.
Hundreds of lives were lost while waiting in queues, unwanted medical and psychological emergencies created, and many small businesses sent to an indecent burial. The Modi who wept and guaranteed change after his demonetisation drama is silent now. Will he stage another Midnight Masala to correct it? Will he weep and ask forgiveness for the lives lost because of his callousness? But the replies of the ‘Leading Lights’ of the Government debunks any such happenings, their attitude and reply reeks of insincerity and apathy. The BJP government still seems to be pig-headed in claiming that Demonetisation was really a success. Reason? It has bought more taxpayers into the fold! WHat for Sir? A Government singing peons about bringing more money to its coffers by playing death music to small and medium businesses and dancing on dead bodies is a shame. It is a malicious vice and a cancerous tumour which any Government should not inherit or highlight. Unluckily and ironically the present Government has inherited it from the erstwhile Gujarat Govt and are busy cheering about this malady. Add to it, the populace who are soaked in idiocy that acche din are coming. ‘India is in a Glorious Period’.
In this hour of frustration we should be more sympathetic to this acche din wallas and their seekers and their believers. Pompously and priggishly they brand these as mistakes which can occur with any Government. Being sympathetic to this brilliant tubelights, let us clear air about one thing- Government is an organic entity made of many blocks and it does not hinge on an individual and his ideology for decision making. If it happens, the word democracy will become redundant. Unfortunately, the present happenings seem to signify only this, an Individual with an Orange Chaddi seems to take decisions without any consultations. His actions seem to indicate that he has not recovered from his old religious pracharak days- following blind malevolent orders.
But why was this order put forth. Reasons are aplenty but fortunately there exist many “Brilliant” brains in our country who stash them as useless and articulate as if their direct ancestors were Aristotle and Marx.
The middle class is the foundation of the Indian Nation and was the backbone of the Indian National Movement. Be it Gandhiji, Nehruji, Sardarji or the present Teesta Setalvad, Vernon Gonsalves, Varavara Rao, Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navalkha, Thirumurugan Gandhi, Piyush Manush, Valarmathi(all recently jailed by Govt) belong to the middle class. Break their backs the back of democracy will stutter. To reason it more vividly, many small and medium businesses died but there were some businesses which rose energetically during demonetisation. Who were they? Our favourite Jio. Anybody who gives anything for free becomes favourite for Indians. At the happening of the demonetisation, the big fat man pumped billions into a new venture and is a market leader now. As said, reasons are aplenty but get defeated by the despairing stupidity of the populace. To add more irony, the current ruling dispensation owes its success to this very segment of populace, which it is haranguing currently.
Anyways with this drama coming to an end, anxiously and excitingly waiting for the next Midnight Masala from Mr.56. Life in present India is exhilarating and thrilling, from demonetisation to Jio Plans, from Lynch Mobs to Kumbh Melas, from Chest thumping King Kongs to Mute Foxes.
